What we machine

We machine plastics, copper, aluminium, stainless and hardened steel in our own workshop in Hamilton, by milling and by turning. On most materials we hold ±0.01mm.

Our fabrication work is in mild steel, stainless or aluminium, welded and finished to your drawing. Water jet profiling cuts profiles from sheet and plate, and because it's a cold cut there's no heat distortion at the edge.

Tell us which of these your part is made from, or which ones you're weighing up, and we'll quote from there.

Choosing a material

If the drawing already names a material, we'll work to it. If it doesn't, or you're open to alternatives, tell us what the part has to do and where it's going to live, and we'll advise.

A few things are worth knowing before you ask for a quote. Aluminium is light and machines quickly, so it's a common choice where weight matters. Stainless resists corrosion, which counts for parts that live outdoors or get washed down. Copper conducts heat and electricity well. Plastics are light and won't corrode, and they suit parts that don't carry heavy loads. Hardened steel is for parts that take wear.

Weight, cost and how long the part has to last all pull in different directions, which is why we'd rather talk a choice through with you than guess at it.

None of that replaces the drawing, though. If you're not sure, ask. A short conversation before the job starts is quicker than finding out afterwards.

What to send us

Send the drawing with the material named, and the quantity and the date you need it. If you want us to suggest a material, tell us what the part is for and what it has to put up with, such as load, heat, weather or wear.

We take DXF, DWG, STEP, IGES, STL, PDF, JPG and PNG files, up to four on the quote form and 4MB in total, or email anything bigger.

Finishes and paperwork

If you need a particular surface finish, or paperwork that goes with the material, say so when you ask for the quote. We'll tell you what we can do, and it's much easier to plan from the start than to add it on at the end.

Checked against your drawing

Whatever the material, we measure every part against your drawing before it leaves the workshop. Our micrometers, calipers and gauges are calibrated and traceable, and we supply inspection paperwork if your job needs it.

Plastics, copper, aluminium, stainless and hardened steel.

Which materials do you fabricate in?

Mild steel, stainless or aluminium, welded and finished to your drawing.

Do you machine plastics and copper as well as metals?

Yes. Plastics and copper are on our list alongside aluminium, stainless and hardened steel.

Does water jet profiling suit all materials?

Water jet profiling is for profiles cut from sheet and plate. It's a cold cut, so there's no heat distortion at the edge. Send a DXF or a drawing and we'll confirm.
